Many of us live with
situations that we ourselves cannot explain.
We have a hard time accepting that bad times are happening in our
life. We think because we are Children
of God that we should never fall on hard times.
Then when bad things happen we try to run from our problems.
We want to blame our
misfortunes on others. We want to blame
God for letting us down. We want to say
that the devil is trying us. We cannot
just accept that bad things happen to all people.
Recent events in my life
have affected me to the point that I too blamed God for what was
happening. I couldn’t accept that the
problems that were happening in my life were just random events.
I am writing this today
from a new perspective. I read a book
that inspired me to start writing again.
See we have to come to a realization in our life that hard times can mold
us into a better person.
I am still in the middle
of bad situations, yet my frame of mind has changed. Instead of hiding myself from the world I
have chosen to step out again. I am
still weak both physically and emotionally.
Yet, when it comes to my spiritual side I have learned that God is there
no matter what.
We have to look at our
lives and see that God doesn’t leave us when we are down. Instead it is God that is helping us through
the situation. I am reminded of the poem
“Footprints in the Sand.” This poem
reflects the way God helps us when we are at our lowest.
We also learn that we
have to not worry about tomorrow.
Instead we need to focus on today.
We need to not concentrate on the things of the past. This is the hardest thing that we face when
we are in the middle of a trying time in our life. We want to change tomorrow and make it better
than today. We look back to the past and
want to go back times when we were not facing the hardship that we are in.
Yet, we have to put all
our concentration on what is happening in this moment and time. We need to look around us and see the
positive things that are happening in our life.
We need to realize that there will be a light at the end of the tunnel
we are now facing. We might not overcome
all that we are dealing with. Yet, we
will have things that we can overcome.
How can we come to these
conclusions? Jesus told us this in his
many sermons and events that happened during his life. The story that sticks out in my mind is the
story of the woman that touched the hem of his clothing. She had been sick so long. Yet, she had heard about the Messiah and that
a simple touch could heal her. She
struggled through the crowd to receive that gift. She had faith and was healed. We do not know if there were other situations
in her life but, receiving the gift of healing of her sickness was a blessing
that she had to help her through the rest of her life.
In the Hebrew Scriptures
we can look at the story of Ruth. She
was in a very bad situation. Naomi her
mother-in-law had lost her husband. Then
both of her sons died leaving no support for not only Naomi but also her two daughter-in-laws. She encouraged them to go back to their family. Oprah left and went back to her family because
she felt she would be better off than if she stayed with Naomi. Ruth on the other had would not leave.
Imagine the strength
that it took to leave your country and go to an unknown place. She had to realize that she would have to
help Naomi in a much different way. Yet,
she was not discouraged. Her faith in
God shined bright. Eventually we come to
see that this trust in God would lead to the perfect mate. As she was collecting the leftovers of the
field to feed herself and Naomi she saw light at the end of the tunnel. God sent Boaz into her life to bring the help
that they both needed.
Think about that a
second is there people that have come into your life to help you. Do you push them away because you are afraid
of allowing them to see your weakness?
Yet, what you come down you realize that these people are there because
sent them your way.
One of the things that have
helped me during this time of illness is the support groups that I have found
through the internet. I am not able to
go out in the community and be around others.
Yet, the people that I talk to have encouraged me and showed me that
there is light at the end of the tunnel.
A simple word like prayers shows me that the person took that moment to
think about me and ask God to help me.
These groups have also given
me a forum in which I can help others.
It is amazing how much your words can help a person see the light at the
end of the tunnel. True it doesn’t solve
the problem but it gives you hope. Then there
are those times that you may have suggestions that the other person had never
thought about.
I also felt blessed that
the new church that I joined has been there in my time of great need. It is amazing how a congregation and
individuals within that congregation can be there for you even when they have
not personally met you. It is amazing
when people send you text, emails or Facebook messages how uplifting it can be
to a person that is facing difficult situations.
Therefor the most
important thing that we need to realize is that God doesn’t want us to go
through bad times. God doesn’t challenge
our faith by making our life hard. God doesn’t
abandon us and let us face challenges by ourselves. We have to realize that God has many angels
(people) on Earth to help us get through the rough times.
The next time you are
afraid of facing tomorrow stop and think about what is happening in that moment. When you start dreaming of the past, stop and
concentrate on this very moment. When
you are feeling alone today and feel like you are facing challenges on your own
need to stop and see how God is there.
We have to come to
realize that God isn’t a far off being that doesn’t care for us. God loved you so much that Jesus died on the
cross for you. If God loved you this
much why would God abandon you when you are struggling?
God doesn’t pick and
choose who will be helped based on biases.
Instead God will help anyone.
Think about the scripture in Matthew when Jesus made it clear that if we
ask it will be provided. In those
moments when you believe that you are all alone accept the grace that comes
from God.
Allow the light of God
to light the tunnel of the struggle that you are going through at this moment
and time.
